Hell freezes over every year.
It's call Michigan.
If we have summer, we can't enjoy it because no matter where you are, less than 8 feet from you is some kind of construction.
If you like construction, you can't enjoy it because no matter when you live here, because of the lakes, weather is probably going to be snow.
h8 Michigan. Are mittens flammable?

Some are. But I hear state sized mittens are susceptible to nuclear fallout.

Heh. We got snow (sort of) for the first time in a few years down here. Never stayed on the ground long, but we got a light coating on decks, plants, some cars, etc.
^ I say sort of because it's nothing compared to what you people get. It started as flurries, got a little stronger, then disappeared. Want to trade? It's been a while since I've seen real snowfall, and I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands for a week or two.

Ann Arbor kicks some pretty decent ass. It achieves the 'melting pot' status and the average citizen makes 40k+ a year. Because of this you get a real nice mixture of people without many bad apples.
What are you going to grad school for? What kind of interests do you have?

Going for an MS in Human-Computer Interaction.
I like parks and lakes. Shopping. Theater shows when I remember I like them. Museums and old stuff. Call me boring, but I like going out during the day more than at night, so I'm less interested in nightlife, though I wouldn't like it very dead at night either.
Oh... this is important to my survival... know if there are Asian grocery stores about?
Right now, though, I'm more concerned about housing... would you recommend having a car, or is it pretty easy to get to places walking/busing? I'm thinking that if I had one, I could live further from campus (cheaper rent!), but not sure parking and gas would be worth it.

If there's one thing I'll give Michigan: it is the single most underrated state for wildlife, camping, biking, etc. Ton's of outdoor activities year round. Ann Arbor has some decent museums, Detroit does as well. I'd say Ann Arbor's general nightlife is less flashy and more pub-ish, but I am the kind of person who tends to avoid raves, techno halls, or whatever you kids call it now days.
There are tons of Asian stores in Ann Arbor. Several right downtown.
I'd recommend living off campus. Rent is cheaper, you can generally walk to downtown with no problem, and most apartments here give free parking. As a student you get a cheap parking pass on campus. I'd also recommend having a car because a lot of activities or just general life will require driving. Sadly the Motor City has crappy public transport and is sprawled out over several counties.

i said the same thing. Detroit Metro, pretty much all of Michigan, has bad public transport. The only exception is Ann Arbor's local SMART. The bad thing about them is they service such a small area it makes it pointless for anything outside of the city.

Spreading
Spreading rates No two storms are alike, so no single set of standards will give the proper spreading rate for all storm conditions. Generally, however, only apply enough chemical de-icer to permit plows to remove the snow or melt glare ice. Experience shows that it is most effective to spread between 100 and 300 pounds per single lane mile. Do not use any de-icer when temperatures are below its effective range. Normally, 15o to 20o F is considered the lower limit for salt. If de-icing is necessary at lower temperatures, more salt is needed and melting will take much longer. Other chemicals such as calcium chloride and magnesium chloride may be a better choice.
