Here's the first one. Very generic. Female newbie with robes and a pack, and the Mischief 101 book. Butterfly net sticking out of the pack. Generic forest background. Graphite on white paper.

Line drawing on white paper. Cyrenians at CC with a meteor arrow headed towards them. The desc reads something like, "Despite meteor arrows, Cyrenians gather in the snow at Centre Crossing, confident that the CCG will rid the city of pesky enemies." (This was a loser in August.)
I'm unsure which I want to submit. I think I could make the Minia one more Achaean. I like the lower one because it's different. But obviously, different didn't work last month.

Thanks!

I like the second one, it really is a great original style...reminds me of storybook illustrations. I think it's a great pic, personally, art-wise, but the judges for the artisanal contests are generally closed minded. For instance, a crappy colored picture will often come out with a higher prize than a good black and white picture. It's too bad but something to keep in mind I guess.

Maybe try putting a pixie or two in the first one. Maybe something carrying water, since the school's kinda by the bucket-carrying pixies, as I recall. That's one thing I'd do to make it 'more Achaean' anyway.

I really like the 2nd one. It's so - ed up that I love it.
I don't think either would win, though, because the first one has nothing distinctly achaean, and the 2nd one, despite me loving it, is - ed up.

I really do love the style of the second one... but is that Kermit on the left?

Why is that demon teddy bear eating a stick, and why does it have an aura around it?
What are those triangle things in the sky?
That thing on the right with the diamond shaped head is being raped my some horrific child-ghost.
Do you have some kind of mental disorder that makes your pictures full of dark, depressing imagery?

Do you have some kind of mental disorder that makes your pictures full of dark, depressing imagery? That'd be you. It says "You can't raid on our parade!" in the corner. I think the picture is weird, but pretty positive.
Why the bitingly analytical response?

Who is vesence? Were his/her threads removed?
Edit: Never mind! I found his posts in "Behind the Veil"!
to OP: I also vote for the second one. Although, I didn't realize you could submit the same piece twice. Has anyone ever won by doing this? Do the judges rotate or something?

I don't think it was entirely his ego that was the problem, but his ability(or lack of), to accept criticism. I don't remember his posts, but regardless, whatever problems he had, he had prior before posting his art here.

Madelyne the second one needs willow trees. =/
While the first one probably wouldn't win as, as Latus said, it isn't distinctly Achaean, it is my favourite.
I'd love to see the second (with willow trees!) in color, bright, funky, 60s color.

The word 'critical' denotes an objection with a meaning. Rukimoro is not critical, he is, as always, just a moronic teenager. The sort of an idiot Miagorme would be if he had a dragon monk Mhaldorian.
Edit: and Vesence's problem was too much identification with his drawings and failure to face the fact he has to practice to be better.
Edit2: and yeah, like Rukimoro, gods are too stupid OR shortsighted to appreciate art - what they seek is a good commercial. You know every work they pick as winning automatically becomes their creative work?

Agreed!
I like the second one much better too. Maybe the problem was that it's odd enough that you have to look really close to get the 'distinctly Achaean' details. Or maybe the judge just didn't like odd.
You could try putting a very obvious boar or moon tattoo on somebody

Just any old warrior will probably not make it. Just adding the name of a city
or house doesn't make it uniquely Achaean. Bewinged Atavians with runes on
their armour and weapons and tattoos on their bodies, or even acting out
Achaean abilities - this is more likely to be convincing.
runes, tattoos, same thing.

That used to be a running joke in Ty Beirdd, amongst Artisanal competitors.
-Bah, how did they win?
-Because their people had tattoos, duh!
It was amusing yet frustrating all at once.

Oh, and after asking for comments, I forgot to enter September's contest. Oops. By the time I wrapped up from my vacation at the end of September, it was already October. Oh well.
