Hello everyone,
Please forgive any mistakes in this medium. I have not posted in a forum in a very long time. To make this clear straightaway, I am not as nice as others that may frequent these forums. I will never become truly OOC, in that I will never quote popular media, I will never joke around, I will never make comments that are flippant or, hopefully, ill-conceived. Moving beyond this constructed forum persona would hurt the character that is Neraeos. The reasons for this will likely be explained in subsequent posts. I am, however, somewhat fair in-game, and I would hope to be very fair out of game, and am rather approachable. I am also very against flaming and snide insults.
All of this being said, I bid you fondest greetings, and I thank Maya, Valnurana and Ourania for giving me the opportunity to speak and listen to you all.
I have been roleplaying in many capacities in Achaea for a very, very, very long time. I have seen many things, and implemented many more. Due to the nature of Neraeos' character, I've been exposed to nearly all parts of Achaean society. With the ascension of the illustrious Roleplay Producers of Achaea, roleplaying in Achaea can reach a new golden age. However, in order to succeed, this is going to take each and every one of you who care about such things. This is generally a very polite forum, and I would have it continue to be such. Carefully read Maya's instructions as to simply be thoughtful to one another on the fora. With a little work, this forum could very well be the springboard for the rise of great roleplayers and great roleplay events. Remember that though Gods may not comment on these forums, many Gods do read them. Yes, the very Gods who may be planning great events for you all to partake in.
The roleplaying forum has as yet been underused, in my opinion. I am here to assist you in several ways.
(1) Watching and commenting on roleplaying ideas. Some may be feasible, others may not be. Some other ideas may be utterly implementable, but only if you think from a different angle. Many of the good people here already do this, which has contributed to the success of the Roleplay Forums as is. However, sometimes it is good to have a Garden viewpoint. Do not expect me to comment in every thread, but do expect me to read them.
(2) Tutorials. This may take some time to create, as I am used to speaking to a very narrow and specific crowd. Such things will come in time. For example, the long-term reasoning behind the title-vindictiveness of Neraeos, different character archetypes, the need to respect the Gods and the methods, and so on. There are many ways to develop a persona (Neraeos was developed in only one of many, many ways), a house or a city. Yes, houses and cities can be thought of as roleplay devices, and can (and should) be pushed to that end. Such tutorials (perhaps the better word would be treatises?) will be made on as many subjects as are needed. It is very important to note that these will be constructed with input from you all, so when I place topics of discussion, do respond if you feel your opinion may be useful. Such items may make it into later tutorials.
(3) Being a liason from the Garden. Note that I am a liason, not a Roleplay Producer. I am not here to approve or veto events, I am here to listen to you, and maybe to advise you a little. Remember, and never forget, that the Roleplay Producers (and the Garden in general, everyone leads their own events and creates their own little part of the Achaean tapestry!) make sure that we keep bringing exciting events, small events, and general atmosphere to Achaea. The Garden works harder and spends more hours on events than many of you could possibly believe. A weekend event can take from a month to a year or more to plan in advance, depending on its complexity. I want you to respect this effort that each of these Gods and Celani make, and do not flame it. You can by all means criticize events, if such criticism leads to better events. Otherwise, such flaming is a waste of time. If you are respectful, you will be listened to. Let the Rants people rant. If you are mad at an event, do not post here until your head has cleared. Input on such things is always welcomed, so long as it is respectful and carefully thought out.
More will follow later, but for now, I would like to hear all of your ideas as to the possible directions you would like these discussions to run. If you have burning topics you would like to talk about, let me know in this thread. Let us begin the discussion before we cast anything in stone.
I look forward to your thoughts.

My first thought is that this might make a good sticky.
These tutorials, will they be individual to houses, cities? or general techniques? I'm not sure I quite understand what the aim is with them.

Okay, I had no idea what to expect when Maya announced that you were going to be commenting here, but now I'm pretty excited. Thanks!

These tutorials are meant to be very general techniques for now. In time, it would be interesting to go into specific organizations, but that is not really the purview of the Roleplaying Board.
For example, it is not the business of the people of the forum to know the inner workings of the Shadowsnakes. As a secretive house, the Shadowsnakes would be immensely hurt by such exposure. However, there are likely members of the Shadowsnakes who are members of this roleplaying forum community, who can bring the thoughts of this forum and apply it to their unique house.
If a house has an interesting dynamic that they would like to share, this is a great medium to do so. However, and I want to make this clear: This is not the place to show secrets. This sort of OOC information WILL affect you IC, no matter what you do, what you say, or what you think. So, let us avoid that temptation right away.
A good example being the occultists:
We do not have to know that they worship the Ninth Heletron of the Fourth Dimension of Nyx. We also don't need to know their secret password, handshake, and deep, dark rites. The mere secrecy of such things is what makes houses like the Occultists so interesting. However, if there is a fundamental key to the success of the occultists as a roleplaying house that seems easy to be shared, it could be as thus: "Secrecy". As a mortal (and as a God as well!) I have always been impressed at the sheer mystery they can invoke. This is a very simple thing, and there is very little need to elaborate on details. House lords could say how they go about maintaining this secrecy, and so on, but that is about as org-specific as is really needed.
What other keys to success do your houses have, lessons you have learned that can be imparted to others?
These are all examples of what could eventually be found in tutorials, should discussions prove fruitful.

I am overly glad about the administration's decision to gear the game more towards roleplay in a positive way. I suppose a council mirroring the ACC is completely out of the question, eh?

You are correct, that is out of the question.

Hello!
It would certainly be interesting to see what can happen with this. Guidelines to roleplaying are a bit hard to write, considering they should be appliable to any way of roleplaying a character. A list of do-nots could be rather useful, though.

On tutorials:
I assume we will be getting ones relating to character development too? I've noticed that at least a quarter of threads in the particular forum involves creating a background, a description, etc. And I've noticed that helpful repliers end up repeating themselves over and over again with advice. Getting all the advice into one thread that each new player can take a look at for tips might be helpful.

Where exactly would these tutorials be located ? In the game, on the forums or on the website ?

I imagine they would first be posted by Neraeos here and discussed, and any useful revisions or additions arising from said discussion added. After that, I'd be glad to post them in-game/on the website.

A pleasure to see an experienced roleplaying Divine step forth and help bring about a new golden age for roleplaying in Achaea. I will be watching this closely, and hope to aid.

These tutorials (treatises is very much a better word, I think) would simply be documents of guidelines. Because roleplay on Achaea is not heavily regulated, these are more like suggestions and reasons behind these suggestions. Do not expect to see these soon, nor on a regular basis; they will come out as time permits, and when interesting topics are broached.
For instance, one upcoming treatise might be simply an accent/voice list, suggestions as to what might fit with some cities and races, and so on. As a player you could have any voice/accent you want, but if you would like to somehow fit with many roleplayer's ideas as to what a race or city would sound like, you could find it here.
I am definitely not a grand king of roleplaying or whatnot, so do not take these treatises as law. They are really just compiled and sorted observations from several years of playing in Achaea as a mortal, a God, and the sentience behind a few denizens. Take them or leave them as you will, and discuss when I post them if you will! Maya was exactly right earlier in this thread as to the manner the treatises will be developed.

Very nice. I've been wishing for something like this for ages now. (re: tutorials & treatises). Also, I respect your game-plan for the forum (Ie: the construction of a forum/semi-IC persona. I think that is important)

Speaking of roleplay, do you think I can get those inks back I lost on that Ghost ship event?
