Quick Combat Questions

  • Nobody really seemed willing to answer my question in quick questions, so I'll ask it here instead.

In terms of survivability for a magi, is intelligence more important overall than con? I'd heard that both diamond and stoneskin were the main defense for a magi, and that their damage reduction relied heavily upon an intelligence level. So, would it be worthwhile to sacrifice one point of con for int?
  • Both, stoneskin and diamondskin, have 'The protection afforded increases with your skill in elementalism.' written in them. There is no mention of it being intelligence based at least in the AB thingie. I'll try to test it and get back to you unless somebody else has already answered here.
  • Stoneskin, diamondskin, and barkskin are affected by intelligence, but I'm not sure how much. Looking at the history of changes, I expect the effect of intelligence to be pretty small right now, but I haven't actually tested it.

Most things that are affected by strength or intelligence don't explicitly say so in the AB files.

Stoneskin/Diamondskin were changed years ago right after Diamondskin went in and a bunch of people claimed it was overpowered.  yes it is affected by intelligence but not a whole lot. Trasing Elementalism will give you the maximum effect.   If you want to live forever as a magi while bashing go became a horkvali Magi and get a bastard sword.  Lol it has been done.  Just sucks on your actually doing intel based attacks because Horkvali are kind of dumb.

Are you not aware of the huge changes to how races work?

A horkval can have 16 int naturally now, without artefacts.

Also, a level 3 bastard sword with 17 str will still be worse than staffcast at 12 int, with how much the effectiveness of str/int have been reduced.
  • @Sena Am I missing something? I thought Horkval capped out at 14 int naturally. Commander only has 13 base int plus 1 from a trait.

Oops, you're right. I was looking at the int specialisation as the base for some reason.

Still, there's not a huge difference in damage between 14 int and 16 int. And 14 int staffcast is still about equal to 25 str Dreadblade.

I'm still wondering how you -abuse- guarding. It's a skill that monks use. If you hit it, you're going to get either AXKed or BBTed.

Why do monks BBT from guarding? I haven't really been able to figure out why... It seems like there as so many better uses for it. I agree though, I'm not really sure how one "abuses" guarding. If you hit it at a bad moment, it's pretty much entirely your fault most of the time, thinking about it, heh.

I moved it here because I thought it was a bit inappropriate for The Ranting Menace, so here it is if you want to continue discussing it.
  • @Manix I am not really interested in flaring an argument back up, but I can tell you why I dislike it in-game if you are curious.

  • People get a bit touchy discussing things in game with an 18 y/o, it almost always ends up in an argument about age and experience than actual combat. :/ We can if you're interested though!
  • My perspective is from someone who has only been fighting a really short while, so keep that in mind and take my opinion with a grain of salt. I just think guarding sucks.

  • @Tesha you told me in the other threat I should have come to you IG about the whole situation. The character Jacen has no knowledge of what happens on the forums, and the character Jacen did not receive the OOC message that I got from a friend, relating to me what you were saying about me and my fighting style. I'm not going to take any of this IG, because the extent of the character Jacen's knowledge is that you are an upstart refugee combatant that's quickly made a name for herself with her combat ability.

I don't understand why I got all the shallam hate over in the other thread. I freely admitted that you are a better combatant than me. All I wanted was for you to stop portraying me as someone who abuses game mechanics. That is not an image that I, the player, wants to live with.

  • See what you did Manix? :(

I am sorry Jacen, I have no interest in discussing this in the forums. PM me if you really need to continue this discussion.

  • I was just asking questions about combat :(
  • oh the lols

  • I think we all need to acknowledge the risks inherent in provoking the forum squads of any given faction.

On the bright side, we can now tell exactly who is winning by looking at post likes and WTFs.

@Tesha Monks used to have a skill called tripblock that actually randomly proned whoever physically attacked them. Was delete some time ago but was in the game for a really long time.

It can get you kills really easily. Sometimes the person might be low on health and they might die to that one bbt (or axekick combo, btw @Jacen People call getting killed in an axekick combo getting one shot by axk). It can also do pre-damage to those really tanky people if they hit guarding right before your break chain so you have a higher chance of killing them. Also, they might stand up and hit guarding again, letting you basically get a free kill.

  • @Cooper I just meant that there was a significant amount of predamage. I'm low on STR, so to say I'm one shot axk-combo'ing a fieldplate wearing opponent is a bit unfair of an assessment. She made it sound like I was Jarrel or something, running around with 22 STR.

  • ^ Says the falcon killer.

Just kidding, agree with above. Still bitter.
  • Agreed. Never should have apologized. Especially if I knew you'd totem camp clouds after. Totems are such an abuse of game mechanics you scrub.

  • Dude, it's me. I'm not entirely sure what other response you expected from me besides totem-camping.
  • You were icly honour bound to fight me 1v1 at NoT. No totems for you, no voidfist for me as to not abuse game mechanics. We were to duel to the death with breaks every 90 seconds to reink tattoos if needed.

  • Anyone know how hydra attacks are affected by stats?

From what I understand Bite/clamp is STR based, but what about flame? is it INT?
seems hydra gets a little screwed since knuckles only really work with maul.. but maybe I'm wrong

  • Does Impale Slash do a lot of bleeding damage or is it solely to increase clot cost? Also, is there some sort of chart available for BM limb breaks?
